Hello, blog. It’s nice to finally meet you.

Shore at Deception PassThe shore at Deception Pass, Wash.

I’ve been thinking of this blog for awhile. You see, I’ve been caught up in start-up concerns about blog names (Will this be a name that I won’t find tacky in two weeks?), concepts (Is it too impossible to hope for a slightly novel angle on the everyday blog?) and platforms (Can anyone really give me a well-reasoned argument for WordPress over Blogger?) for a few months. This anxiety is slightly justified as I am guilty of frequently starting up blogs and leaving them to the wayside only a few weeks later. But this time, I want it to stick, and in my mind, I needed the set up for this blog to be perfect or at least good enough to entice and attract me to blog regularly. So here it goes! Vanessa’s blogging for real this time (or at least for the foreseeable future!)!

In some ways, not much in my life has changed in the past few months. Though I recently graduated from college, I’m still within miles of where I went to school. But in other ways, everything is completely different and new. A lot of my life abides by a trial and error approach at this point. It’s challenging, but certainly exciting, and I hope to capture some of this new adventure here.

This blog loosely takes its name from the Los Campesinos! song, “The Sea is a Good Place to Think of the Future.”

It’s actually a pretty sad song, but I love the anthem: “A thousand years in perfect symmetry.” This phrase has been on one of my laptop’s Stickies for awhile now and when I feel a bit stressed, I refer back to it to remind myself of the calm I seek in my life. I will readily admit that I am a rather anxious person, but now that I’m out of school and have a fairly routine life, I’m hoping to regain some balance in my life. As such, this blog will primarily be a destination for those recipes, travels and every day encounters and thoughts that help me maintain a sense of internal happiness, peace and calm. Cheers!
